The Houston Texans(8-7) need a win to earn their first playoff berth in franchise history when the Patriots(10-5) will visit them on Sunday. They came off a 27-20 win against Miami last Sunday. A win against the England Patriots would mean EVERYTHING to the hosts.

Coach Gary Kubiak is still happy with his team, which can secure its first winning season by defeating the Patriots. To advance, the c (8-7) need to beat New England and get losses from two of three teams—Baltimore, Denver and the New York Jets. The Ravens face Oakland and the Broncos host Kansas City, matchups that seemingly put a damper on Houston’s prospects.

The Patriots however, feel the opposite. They are happy enough that their season finale is meaningless, and some of their banged-up starters will likely get some rest as they tune up for the playoffs Sunday at Houston.

Minnesota Vikings(11-3) try to bounce back from their second loss in three games and possibly clinch a postseason bye Monday night when they visit the struggling Bears. Minnesota lost 26-7 at Carolina last week, even so, they have already clinched a second straight NFC North title.

Meanwhile, Chicago Bears gave up four touchdowns through the air in last week’s 31-7 drubbing in Baltimore, its eighth defeat in 10 games. Chicago is assured of becoming the fourth NFL team to miss the playoffs at least three straight years following a Super Bowl appearance.

The Cleveland Browns(3-11) will host the Raiders(5-9) on Sunday and it will be a battle of epic proportions between two of the NFL’s most embattled coaches.

Cleveland has won it’s last two games and has shown improvement in it’s game but it’s way too late for that now. They came off a 41-34 win against Kansas City last week.

Oakland Raiders (5-9) will be trying to snap the Browns’ winning streak while winning a third consecutive road game for the first time since 2002. They narrowly won last week against Denver(8-6), 20-19.

The Pittsburgh Steelers(7-7), came from a very narrow 37-36 win against the Green Bay Packers last week will host the Baltimore Ravens(8-6), who came from a big romp against Chicago last week, on Sunday.

The last time these teams faced, a trip to the Super Bowl was on the line. The stakes aren’t quite as prestigious this Sunday, but the game is still significant with both teams simply trying to make the playoffs.

If Baltimore Ravens wins this game they make it to the playoffs, since Jacksonville and New York lost. The Jaguars and Jets are two of the six AFC teams all with 7-7 records - a group that includes the Steelers.

Unlike Baltimore, which controls its own fate, Pittsburgh needs a lot of help to reach the playoffs and defend its Super Bowl title.

Because of tiebreakers, the Steelers could win Sunday and then beat Miami in their regular-season finale, yet could still finish behind Baltimore in the wild-card standings as long as the Ravens end their season with a victory at Oakland.

The Ravens will receive a much bigger test against a Steelers team with a lot more at stake.
